Clackamas Free Clinic: Volunteers in Medicine Tenant Improvement
The Clackamas Free Clinic: Clackamas Volunteers in Medicine, which serves under-insured and low income members of Clackamas County, partnered with Clackamas Community College (CCC) to relocate their clinic to the campus. The clinic design focused on low-cost trauma informed design and inclusivity to create a space that felt welcoming and safe to their patients. The partnership with CCC not only provides free health care options to students on campus, but also offers opportunities for students within their healthcare program to get hands-on experience within a clinic setting. The clinic is staffed by a volunteer team, including both retired and part-time caregivers, as well as students. It includes exam rooms, an optometry space, a reproductive health with connected consult/counseling room, and support spaces. The design focused on utilizing materials that are not overly clinical, an easy to navigate program with multi-language signage, and opportunities to offer resources, whether it be health and wellness resources such as tampons or socks, and pamphlets/documentation on other healthcare resources.
